Church Conservation Limited - Reaching new heights in conservation, restoration and repair

Many of the country’s beautiful historic buildings and monuments are literally crumbling away through the ravages of time and atmospheric pollution and vibration caused by vehicular traffic.

The work of repairing and then conserving these structures is often complex and expensive, requiring the application of modern technology and the traditional skills of craftsmen.

Today Church Conservation Ltd specialise in every aspect of church and historic building repair and conservation and we are justifiably proud of our unrivalled reputation for quality workmanship and service gained over the years on literally hundreds of prestigious projects throughout the UK.

The work of restoration and repair encompasses all the essential skills of the stone mason, steeplejack, joiner and metal worker.

Church Conservation Ltd apply all these skills to provide a complete conservation and repair service – from regular maintenance and remedial work to major contracts involving extensive structural strengthening and reconstruction.

A UNIQUE SERVICE

As with all projects, we consider it essential from the outset that a thorough, expert survey be carried out by our own engineers to discover all the problems and their causes before the work of restoration can proceed.

For this reason Church Conservation Ltd provide a comprehensive inspection service for the purpose of advising clients on the extent and cost of the work involved. In the case of spires and towers it is necessary that these inspections are made at high level. This can be carried out from a Bosun’s chair or ladders.

All inspections including a written report, together with an estimate of total costs for the work involved are presented to highlight the urgent priorities and where necessary a repair programme in order that available funds can be allocated accordingly.

Early remedial action will often avoid serious damage and avoidable costly repairs at a later date and conclusive evidence of the problems found.

Preserving the nations heritage for the enjoyment of future generations is our business.

EARTHING AND LIGHTNING PROTECTION

Church Conservation Ltd is a leader in the installation of Earthing and Lightning Protection equipment.

Effective protection is essential in ensuring the safety of buildings, contents and occupants.

Costly damage to property can be the result of an inadequate or failed system. Lightning protection costs little when compared with damage which could result from ineffective conductors.

Church Conservation Ltd provides a comprehensive testing service, We will be pleased to advise on your existing installation and submit our recommendations for further protection if considered necessary.

Church Conservation Ltd has experience in installing systems to Cathedrals, Churches, Stately Homes and country houses where they have been able to design and install systems that treat each case individually and understand the building and its characteristics. We select the most appropriate cross section and colour of conductor for the building whilst positioning the conductors inconspicuously but on a reasonably direct route.

We make use of architectural features such as drainpipes and the corners between buttresses and walls to conceal conductors and reduce visual impact whilst avoiding important or interesting architectural features, windows and carvings etc. and observing the principle of reversibility so that the installation can be removed without damage to the fabric of the building.

The recent trend in thefts and vandalism of copper conductors from churches and other buildings, Church Conservation Ltd are able to advise and install anti-vandal guards and fix systems at low level using security fixings.

Where vehicles have been used to pull the copper tapes from the structure, we have devised a method of replacement with a joint 6m above ground level that will fail therefore minimising further structural damage and the costs of repairs to the lightning conductor system.
